Ayam Bakar Ojolali

It’s time of the week that I meet up with my fav couple; Jeffissa! We met up for some Indo food at Lucky Plaza. I haven’t tried any other Indo resto there besides Ayam Penyet. So we decided to try out Ayam Bakar Ojolali Surprise-surprise their menu is almost the same as Ayam Penyet, they also sell the fried chickin but their specialty is their barbecue chickin (ayam bakar). It was delicious, I approve!!! We didn’t try their fried chickin’ though, maybe next time; then I’ll tell you whether you should try it as well or just stick to Ayam Penyet’s fried chickin’.

We also ordered gado-gado (Indo style of salad with peanut sauce), it’s not bad, but I still prefer the road-side gado-gado in Jakarta. I guess the gado-gado stall at the road-side has extra ingredients of road dust that makes its gado-gado tastier! We also had Sayur Asam (Sour Soup), I don’t really like their Sayur Asam, it’s way too sour, it needs a lil’ bit more sugar to even-out the taste. We also ordered Fried Catfish (Pecel Lele), compare to Ayam Penyet’s I think Ojolali’s more tastier, almost as good as my old housekeeper’s Fried Catfish, she cooked mean catfish y’all! Too bad she started actin’ funny, so we had to let her go! I sure miss her catfish.

 

The chili that accompanied the food is also good, It’s not as hot as Ayam Penyet’s but it’s good in its own right, and they also add sambal kecap (dark sauce with chili padi and onions) as well.

Jeff ordered Es Ojolali, it’s basically coconut water with cocunut, nata de coco, basil float and some Cocopandan (Coconut and Panda leaves) Syrup… I HEART IT! You must try this! And Mel had a Happy Soda – Condensed milk and Strawberry fanta … I don’t really like it but Mel loves it!

Last but not least, we ordered their Mie Ayam bakso (chickin’ noodle with beef balls). I don’t really heart their version of Mie Ayam, it is way too sweet for my taste! I had a really good Indo Mie Ayam at the S11 in front of Cuppage Plaza. I don’t know whether the stall is still existing or not. I promise I’ll check it out and let you know.

The service at Ojolali is excellent! I praise the friendly staff who served us!

Verdict: A must try, especially for the Ayam Bakar and Pecel Lele! I would go back again to try out their other dishes; Plus leave comments if you’ve tried other dishes on the menu!

Then we went for a stroll along Orchard Road and went to HMV for a while before going home. I kinda feeling shitty today with work, thank god for Jeffissa, they are great listeners and advisors! I heart them to pieces! Thanks Jeffissa!
